A Georgian Period Country Made Mahogany & Satinwood Inlayed Box
A George III period country made mahogany and satinwood inlayed box.
This unusual box has circular inlays to each of its sides with mahogany and satinwood diamond motifs. In itself, a pretty little country made piece although it is the inside that the piece really comes to life with its alternating mahogany and satinwood slips around the internal walls. The satinwood base has a circular motif with thin concentric circles of veneer and the lid has a superbly executed classical fan motif. The fan maintains its original colouring due to its protection from sunlight with its chequered stringing and green tinged tulip wood surround.
An unusual piece given the amount of attention that has been given to the interior rather than the exterior but still a lovely country made Georgian box.
